On May 24th 2020, over 300 guests were to gather in Toronto to celebrate Lauren, Jordan and their warm families on their wedding day. But 2020 had different plans. Instead, Lauren would be called to the front lines of the unfolding pandemic and plans for their dream wedding were put on hold.
When Lauren first mentioned that they had decided to honour their original date outside the city with their parents with an intimate wedding ceremony I couldn't have been more excited.
So often at weddings I hear the same sentiments - inspiring, moving quotes about the power of love to overcome and to find a way in the most challenging of circumstances. I'll admit that after hundreds of weddings, sentiments sometimes began to feel like cliches. It was under the chuppa by the lake where they spend their summers, hearing Lauren and Jordan say their vows, hearing the rabbi conjure scenes of lovers across centuries finding a way to honour the tradition of marriage that I felt the truth of those words again.
Love does indeed find a way, even on our darkest, heaviest days, even in the middle of a pandemic- I am so grateful to have been so beautifully reminded of that.
